What SmartScout does
SmartScout models four layers of the Amazon marketplace -- brands, sellers, subcategories, and products -- and the value is in the joins between them. Search a brand and get every seller carrying it; search a seller and get every brand they carry.
- Brand and seller databases: revenue estimates, growth, catalog, seller geography
- 40,000+ subcategories that Amazon's public browse tree does not expose
- Search-term database, search trends, and keyword-overlap competitor sets
- Ad Spy: competitors' paid search terms with Sponsored Brand, Sponsored Video, Top Spot, and Top Group win rates (Enterprise)
- An AI Visibility Monitor that runs your prompts against ChatGPT through the day and reports a visibility rate, rank, and the domains it cites
- TikTok Shop analytics, included on every plan
How it fits next to MAP
These are complements, not alternatives. SmartScout estimates the market from the outside; MAP reads your own accounts from the inside. Neither can do the other's job.
| SmartScout | Marketplace Ad Pros | |
|---|---|---|
| Data origin | Modelled external marketplace data | First-party Amazon Ads and SP-API |
| Revenue figures | Estimated from Best Sellers Rank | Actual, from your own reports |
| Scope | Every brand, seller, and subcategory | Your accounts, brands, and profiles |
| Advertising | Competitors' inferred terms and win rates | Your real spend, ACOS, TACOS, DSP, AMC |
| Writes to Amazon | No | Yes, opt-in and confirmed |
What to know before you buy
- Seller-level and subcategory-level data start on Business ($299/mo, $239/mo annual). Basic is product data; brand data starts on Essentials.
- Ad Spy and Share of Voice are Enterprise-only, and the API and Data Lake are paid add-ons on top of Enterprise with no self-serve keys.
- MCP is sold on Business and Enterprise as two tiers, Snapshot and Full Access. SmartScout does not publish what separates them, and neither will we.
- Their Search Query Performance explorer needs your own connected Brand Registry account -- that is your first-party Brand Analytics data, the same source MAP reads over SP-API.
- Revenue figures are estimates from Best Sellers Rank. SmartScout claims 80-90% accuracy and says roughly 5% of products carry no rank and so get no estimate at all.
Why we recommend them
Their founder's own framing is the fairest one: "If the single point of value to you is the revenue number that SmartScout puts next to a brand, then SmartScout might not be the tool for you." Read the numbers as directional market share and movement and they are genuinely useful -- and they are the context your own account data cannot give you.
We do not integrate with SmartScout today. We recommend it because the category question -- who else is winning this subcategory, and who is bidding on my brand -- is one MAP answers only from inside your own account.
