How do I choose the best AI agent for my FBM business?

Choose by the job that costs you the most time or risk: getting orders shipped on time (orders, labels and stock), answering buyers, or running ads and analysis. No single agent covers all three for FBM sellers yet. Then test each candidate on a real FBM workflow and check four things: that it can see your merchant-fulfilled orders, tracking and returns; that it watches Amazon's FBM metrics; that messages, cancellations and refunds wait for your approval; and that it works through Amazon's official APIs.

What FBM changes for an AI agent

With FBA, Amazon stores, picks, packs, ships, handles customer service and processes returns. With FBM you do all of that yourself, and Amazon grades you on it. That changes what an agent has to do well.

FBA FBM
Who ships the order Amazon You
Who answers "where is my order?" Amazon You, within 24 hours
Who handles returns Amazon You, in Manage Returns
Metrics you're judged on Mostly listing and policy compliance Late shipment, cancellations, tracking, on-time delivery, order defects
What an agent mostly does Restock, inbound shipments, storage fees, ads Ship-by deadlines, labels, buyer messages, returns, stock across channels, ads

FBA agent work is mostly planning. FBM work runs on deadlines: a ship-by date, a 24-hour reply, a 48-hour window before a buyer can file an A-to-z claim. An agent that can't see those deadlines can't protect you from them.

The metrics your agent has to protect

These are Amazon's US targets for seller-fulfilled orders. Other marketplaces use different targets (India's late shipment target is 2%, for example), so check yours in Account Health.

Metric Target Window
Order defect rate (negative feedback, A-to-z claims, chargebacks) Under 1% 60 days
Late shipment rate Under 4% 10 and 30 days
Pre-fulfillment cancel rate Under 2.5% 7 days
Valid tracking rate 95% or more, per product category 30 days
On-time delivery rate 90% or more 14 days
Handling-time accuracy Your set handling time must match how fast you really ship, per SKU 30 days

Seller Fulfilled Prime is stricter: 93.5% on-time delivery, 99% valid tracking and cancellations of 0.5% or less, reviewed every week, plus delivery-speed targets (for standard-size items, 40% of Prime views must show one-day delivery and 75% two-day).

Three changes in 2026 raise the stakes:

  • Handling-time accuracy (June 29, 2026). If a SKU keeps shipping faster than its set handling time, Amazon flags it, and adjusts it for 180 days if you don't fix it within 30 days. Automated Handling Time does this for you.
  • Offer-level enforcement (August 31, 2026). Amazon now switches off the specific FBM offer that is pulling a metric down, instead of putting the whole account at risk. A problem on one slow SKU can take that SKU offline.
  • Amazon's FBM support tools after a miss. When a metric misses, Amazon may require you to enroll in Buy Shipping, Shipping Settings Automation and Automated Handling Time for at least 90 days. Once enrolled, you can't confirm shipments on labels bought outside Buy Shipping.

One more is coming: from December 18, 2026, every US return on a seller-fulfilled order is reported to need a prepaid label or a refund within 7 days. PPC Land reported this from an Amazon email; Amazon's help pages don't show it yet.

What to automate and what to keep on approval

Task Let the agent... Keep a person on...
Order triage Flag orders close to their ship-by date, every day Deciding which late orders to prioritize
Shipping labels Compare services and prefer Buy Shipping labels marked OTDR Protected or Claims Protected Choosing a cheaper label marked Late Delivery Risk, which gets no protection
Confirming shipment Confirm once a label is bought and the package is ready Never confirm just to beat the ship-by date: the late shipment metric clears, but the order still arrives late
Handling time Compare set and real handling time per SKU Overriding Automated Handling Time if Amazon manages it for you
Buyer messages Draft replies and track the 24-hour clock Sending. Amazon bans marketing, links, emojis, thank-you notes and asking buyers to cancel
Cancellations Pause an offer before stock runs out Cancelling orders. Every cancellation you make counts against your rate
Returns and refunds Track the queue and the 2-business-day refund window Approving refunds and exceptions
Pricing Suggest prices that include your shipping charge Changes near Amazon's Fair Pricing limits, which count shipping fees too
Ads Compare ad-driven orders with what you can ship Raising budgets during a backlog

10 questions to ask before you choose

  1. Can it see your FBM orders, ship-by and deliver-by dates, tracking, returns and A-to-z claims, or only sales and inventory?
  2. Does it read Amazon's own Account Health metrics, with Amazon's target for your marketplace?
  3. How often does it check? With 7- and 14-day windows and offer-level enforcement, weekly is too slow.
  4. If it buys labels, does it buy through Amazon Buy Shipping, and does it show which labels are protected?
  5. Do buyer messages, cancellations and refunds wait for your approval?
  6. Does it work through Amazon's APIs (SP-API or Amazon's MCP connector), or by logging into Seller Central like a person? Amazon's Agent Policy requires agents to identify themselves and not imitate a person.
  7. Can it see stock on every channel you sell on, so it can stop an oversell before it becomes a cancellation?
  8. If it changes prices, does it count your shipping charge?
  9. Can it compare FBA, FBM and Multi-Channel Fulfillment costs per SKU with 2026 fees?
  10. Does it show the data behind an answer and keep a log of what it changed, and what will it cost after any trial?

The FBM agent stack in 2026, by job

Most FBM sellers end up combining tools from two or three of these groups. Each group is listed in no particular order.

Amazon's own tools

  • Amazon Seller Assistant -- Free inside Seller Central. Amazon documents account health monitoring, order summary workflows, inventory and ads recommendations, and actions you approve. Wrong choice if you need it to buy labels, confirm shipments or answer buyers: Amazon hasn't published those actions.
  • Amazon Selling Partner plugin -- Amazon's MCP connector for Claude and Amazon Quick, in US beta since September 2026, with approval on every write. Its published skills cover analytics, inventory, FBA inbound and listings. Wrong choice if you want FBM order or shipping workflows or ads data: neither is in the published skills.
  • Buy Shipping, Automated Handling Time and Shipping Settings Automation -- Not marketed as AI, but they set handling and transit times for you and sell the protected labels. Amazon may require them after a missed metric, so any agent you choose has to work with them.

Orders, labels and stock

  • Veeqo -- Amazon-owned. Its MCP server, announced September 15, 2026, lets Claude or ChatGPT search and update orders, compare carrier services, buy labels, track shipments and update stock across channels, and it asks before anything that spends money or changes orders. Amazon names Veeqo as a way to buy OTDR Protected and Claims Protected labels. Shipping plan free; inventory sync from $19/month. Wrong choice if you need ads, or a carrier Veeqo doesn't support.
  • ShipStation -- ShipStation Intelligence picks carriers and flags delivery risk before you ship. Its MCP server answers questions about ShipStation's API rather than acting on your orders. From $14.99/month. Wrong choice if you want an assistant to act on orders from chat today.
  • Sellercloud and Linnworks -- Order and inventory management for sellers on many channels, with rules that route orders and keep stock in sync. Sellercloud starts at $1,349/month; Linnworks doesn't publish prices. Wrong choice if you're a small seller: they're built for volume.

Buyer messages

  • eDesk -- A help desk with an AI Agent that pulls live order status to answer "where is my order?" and drafts replies, with escalation to a person. The AI Agent costs $0.99 per outcome on top of the per-seat plan. Wrong choice if you'd let it send without review: Amazon's messaging rules are strict.

Ads and analysis

  • Marketplace Ad Pros -- An MCP server that gives Claude, ChatGPT and other AI clients your Amazon Ads data next to your FBM orders, FBM returns and Amazon's Account Health metrics. More below. Wrong choice if you want an agent to ship orders or answer buyers: it does neither.
  • Seller Labs -- An MCP server over Seller Central and Ads data that warns when stock covers fewer than 14 days or a budget runs past twice its 30-day average. Free up to 100 tool calls a month, paid from $39/month. Wrong choice if you need FBM order or shipping detail: Seller Labs doesn't describe it.
  • Helium 10 -- An MCP server (free up to 1,000 calls a month) plus an AI agent and ads management on the Diamond plan ($359/month, or $279 billed yearly). Wrong choice if you only need ads and account data: you'd be paying for a full research suite.

Three common setups

Small FBM-only seller with light ads. Turn on Amazon's free tools first: Buy Shipping, Automated Handling Time and Seller Assistant. Add Veeqo's free Shipping plan if you want to buy labels from Claude or ChatGPT. You may not need a paid agent at all.

Selling on Amazon and other channels. The real risk is overselling, which becomes cancellations. Put stock sync first (Veeqo's inventory plan, Sellercloud or Linnworks), then add a help desk with approved replies for messages.

Running real ad spend, or a mix of FBA and FBM. Add an agent that reads ads and orders together, so you can see when a campaign is selling more than you can ship on time, or when an FBM SKU would be cheaper through FBA. This is the group Marketplace Ad Pros, Seller Labs and Helium 10 fall in.

Where Marketplace Ad Pros fits

Marketplace Ad Pros connects Amazon Ads and Seller Central to the AI client you already use (Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and others) through one MCP server. For an FBM seller, that means one agent can read:

  • Your orders, including which are merchant-fulfilled and which are Prime.
  • FBM returns, from Amazon's merchant-fulfilled returns report.
  • Amazon's Account Health report: order defect, late shipment, valid tracking, on-time delivery, pre-fulfillment cancel and invoice defect rates, each with Amazon's own target and status for your marketplace, kept as daily history so you can see a trend.
  • Your listings, with edits and new FBM offers (quantity and handling time) when you approve.
  • Your Amazon Ads, so you can ask whether a campaign is selling faster than you're shipping.

It's read-only by default: you opt into edits, and your AI client asks you to confirm each one. On Launch and higher plans, an Account & Listing Issues email tells you when Amazon rates a metric as bad or your account as at risk. It doesn't buy labels, message buyers, process returns or refunds, reprice, or sync stock with Shopify or eBay, so pair it with Veeqo or your shipping software.

A prompt to try once it's connected:

Check my Account Health for each marketplace. For any FBM metric within a point of Amazon's target, list the orders and SKUs behind it from the last 14 days, and show which of those SKUs had ad spend this week.

Connect your Amazon accounts free; two weeks of the Launch plan is $20 when you want recommendations and alerts on top.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI agent for an FBM Amazon business?

There isn't one agent that covers all of FBM yet, so pick by the job you need done. For orders, labels and stock, look at Veeqo or your order management system. For buyer messages, use a help desk such as eDesk with replies you approve. For ads and analysis, use an agent that reads your orders and account health as well as your campaigns, such as Marketplace Ad Pros, Seller Labs or Helium 10. Amazon's free Seller Assistant is worth turning on whichever you choose.

Does Amazon's Seller Assistant work for FBM sellers?

Partly. Amazon documents account health monitoring and order summary workflows, which help FBM sellers. Amazon has not published Seller Assistant actions for buying labels, confirming shipments or answering buyer messages, and the published skills for its Selling Partner plugin for Claude cover analytics, inventory, FBA inbound and listings rather than FBM shipping.

Can an AI agent answer Amazon buyer messages for me?

It can draft them, and some help desks can send them. Be careful with sending. Amazon's Communication guidelines ban marketing, external links, emojis, thank-you and shipping-confirmation messages, and asking a buyer to cancel because you're out of stock. Breaking them can cost you proactive messaging or your account. Have the agent draft and a person approve.

Can an AI agent buy shipping labels for FBM orders?

Yes. Veeqo's MCP server, announced in September 2026, lets Claude or ChatGPT compare carrier services and buy labels, and asks for confirmation before it spends money. Whatever you use, buy through Amazon Buy Shipping where you can: only Buy Shipping labels marked OTDR Protected or Claims Protected shield your on-time delivery and order defect metrics.

Can using an AI tool get my Amazon account suspended?

It can if the tool breaks Amazon's rules. Amazon's Agent Policy says software acting on Amazon must identify itself as an agent and must not imitate a person or get around CAPTCHAs, so tools that log into Seller Central and click through it carry more risk than tools built on Amazon's APIs. Messages, cancellations and price changes made by an agent are judged the same as if you made them.

Should I use FBA or FBM in 2026?

Many sellers use both and decide per SKU. Amazon raised FBA fees by an average of $0.08 per unit on January 15, 2026, and added a 3.5% surcharge on fulfillment fees from April 17. FBM tends to suit heavy, bulky, slow or custom items, while FBA gives fast-moving items the Prime badge. An agent with your sales and fee data can run that comparison SKU by SKU.

Does Marketplace Ad Pros handle FBM shipping?

No. Marketplace Ad Pros connects your Amazon Ads and Seller Central data to Claude, ChatGPT and other AI clients. It reads FBM orders, FBM returns and Amazon's Account Health metrics, and can edit listings when you approve. It doesn't buy labels, message buyers or sync stock with other sales channels, so pair it with Veeqo or your shipping software.
